Information: 'pig iron' is a metal. Pig iron contains about 90-95% of elemental iron together with several other elements mainly carbon, silicon, phosphorus, manganese, and sulfur – in varying proportions depending on the compositions of the raw materials and the mode of an operating blast furnace. It is a transition metal. It is an intermediate product, generated by smelting iron ore in a blast furnace. It can be used in the following applications and/or processes: in an electric arc furnace for steelmaking, in foundries for producing ductile iron castings, in foundry pig iron in grey iron castings.
